Porsche Design “40Y” P’8478 Aviator Sunglasses ($935)
First introduced back in 1978, Porsche Design’s revolutionary P’8478 sunglasses garnered worldwide attention with their intelligent interchangeable lens mechanisms, essentially creating the world’s first frames to offer interchangeable lenses. Fast-forward 40 years later and now the iconic sunglasses are back, this time in a special, limited-edition 40th anniversary version designed to celebrate the sunglasses’ timeless success.
Made with a super light, high-quality titanium frame and a scratch-resistant, unbreakable polycarbonate, the limited-edition 40th anniversary sunglasses offer up 100% UV protection in a sleek, matte-black frame with gradient grey lenses and a distinctive gold nose-bridge coupled with sophisticated gold accents. The special edition frames also come with four pairs of interchangeable lenses in gradient blue, brown, mirrored olive/silver, and mirrored mercury/silver, along with a special commemorative travel case.
“For the 40th anniversary edition of the P’8478 sunglasses, our designers at Studio FA Porsche wanted to make something special, but they didn’t want to compromise the well-known iconic design,” said Porsche Design Chief Operating Officer Karsten von Engeln. “Therefore we decided to implement a bi-color design—the first time we’ve done this to the P’8478.”
The 40th anniversary sunglasses are limited to 1,978 pairs to correlate with the sunglasses’ original 1978 release date, ensuring you’ll be one of a few to rock them as you rock the top down in your matching ‘911. Don’t own a ‘911? Well fret not, as they’ll look just as good at your next outdoor lunch meeting, where you can formulate a plan for getting into one. Talk about a good investment.
The limited-edition 40th anniversary P’8478 sunglasses will be available mid-April both online and at select Porsche Design retail shops.
