Tree Trunk Cannabis Storage Unit ($399-$2,250)
There are a lot of options when it comes to storing your cannabis, but few, if any, offer up the level of luxury and artisanal craftsmanship that the Tree Trunk does. And perhaps it’s no surprise, considering that there’s more than 50 years of wood making experience that goes into each and every one.
A true conversation piece through and through, the Tree Trunk begs the question—why? Why create such a painstakingly large, elaborate storage unit with such a hefty price tag for just a few jars of weed? The answer: Art, elegance, and most importantly, heritage—a proud one that dates back to 1972 in a small town in the interior of British Columbia, Canada, where co-founder Philip Andrews’ grandfather, uncle, and eventually himself spent years handcrafting high-quality furnishings and cabinetry.
“It was all he really did and knew since he emigrated to Canada from Holland after the war,” said Andrews. “I grew up in it. It’s been here since 1972, and we’re still working in it. There’s still stuff my grandfather had on the wall 30 years ago. There’s a lot of history.”
Indeed there is, and that history of quality craftsmanship has clearly extended down the family line, as attention to quality and detail in The Tree Trunk is second to none in the cannabis industry. Each Tree Trunk storage unit is individually handcrafted for up to 30 hours using only the finest rich, black walnut wood, the result of which can be both seen and felt thanks to gorgeous grain patterns that are smooth to the touch throughout. And that’s just the beginning.
Opening the hefty Tree Trunk lid reveals a matching removable walnut rolling tray with two neatly fitted ultraviolet glass jars each capable of storing up to a quarter of an ounce of your finest buds. The jars are encased in a sleek solid aluminum surrounding trimmed as a single solid block, then machined like a high-end race car part with the laser cut holes to match, making for a truly eye-catching detail that adds a gorgeous look and feel to the trunk’s interior.
Of course with all that handsome flash comes function too. There’s a dedicated secure lock and key, sleek ambient LED lighting, and a handy, built-in USB charger to ensure your phone and, more importantly, your vape, are always charged and ready to go when you are.
“As avid smokers, we wanted to make sure everything functions for a reason,” said co-founder and professional photographer Heath Grout. “For example, the rolling tray doesn’t have any hard edges so the weed doesn’t get caught in it. Same with the illumination. At night when you’re watching a movie, the low-level illumination below looks fantastic and doesn’t disturb your TV, but when you open up the trunk and look inside, the lighting helps you clearly see what strain you’re pulling out. Everything serves a purpose and function.”
Yes, a purpose and function that not only keeps your buds looking great, but your living room too. As Andrews put it, “For so long, cannabis was something you hide. It’s in a shoebox under your bed or in an old iPhone case in your drawer. We wanted to bring it to light, to make it something that’s showcased. When you look at The Tree Trunk, it looks like a piece of high-end art or furniture, not so much taking up space as it is adding to it.”
“It brings a sense of class and sophistication to cannabis that no one’s really seen before,” added Heath. “We want the Tree Trunk to show that there are other cannabis smokers who are, contrary to that age-old stoner stigma, smart, successful, and tasteful. And now there’s something out there for them—for the highly sophisticated cannabis connoisseur.”
