Heddels Denim Wash ($28)
When it comes to caring for your denim, frequent, if any, washing is a strict no-no—especially with raw denim. Washing them breaks down the jeans’ fibers and destroys the indigo dyes and distinct patterns (“whiskers” on the front, “honeycombs” on the back) that your jeans develop over time. And while many jean purists will tell you to avoid washing them at all, we’re more of the opinion that a good cleaning every once in a while is probably fine, if not recommended, to help rid them of some of that dirt and stink they’ve collected over time. The key is how you wash them, and the folks over at Heddels created the perfect product to help you do that.
Heddels Denim Wash is a plant-based detergent specifically formulated to gently clean both raw and dry denim. Primarily made from sapindus mukorossi (aka soap nuts) extract—a naturally growing berry used by humans as soap for thousands of years—the mild, unscented, and eco-friendly detergent helps remove dirt, grime, and odors without messing with the indigo dyes, fades, and fibers of your denim. And with enough detergent for 24 washes in every bottle, a single one should likely last you a lifetime, which is hopefully just as long as your denim will.
