Rag & Bone Star Wars Capsule Collection ($150-$695)
In celebration of the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi movie, which itself is timed with the 40th anniversary of the franchise’s first fim, NYC-based Rag & Bone teamed up with Disney and Lucasfilm to create a limited-edition capsule collection inspired by the film, its culture, and of course its colorful characters and (colorless) dress.
The collection debuted last night at Rag & Bone’s SoHo store here in New york City, with R2-D2 zipping through the crowd like an iRobot Roomba while fully-dressed Stormtroopers guarded the doors from Federation Jedis, aka those not cool enough to get on the guest list. Even Luke Skywalker himself was in attendance, with Hamill being a good sport and admittedly confirming what we already knew—fashion clearly isn’t his strong suit.
“I’m sort of a practical person when it comes to clothes,” Hamill said. “Comfort is really important to me—I defer to people who have better taste and knowledge,” nodding to wife Marilou and daughter Chelsea as his reliable sources of style advice.
As for the actual collection itself, it consisted of classic Rag & Bone silhouettes seemingly mixed in with various Star Wars references, with the label’s familiar muted and monochromatic colors on display in full force (see what we did there?) throughout. Some of the more eye-catching pieces included a Stromtrooper sweatshirt paired with lightspeed pants reflecting opposing factions of the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, a rather dope “RB1 Force In Jedi” velcro strap sneaker/boot combo, and an Obi-Wan hoodie in Tattoine-shaded colors.
“Our approach was really to re-imagine some of our favorite Rag & Bone pieces while taking influence from some of our most memorable moments of past and present Star Wars films,” said Rag & Bone founder and creator Marcus Wainwright. “We wanted the pieces to feel like something that referenced Star Wars but that also fitted the Rag & Bone aesthetic—like a real-world Jedi.”
Indeed, the clothes certainly fit the mold, and apparently the fanbase, as several of the items have already sold out in just the past few hours.
