Kith’s Ronnie Fieg surprised his New York Fashion Week crowd last week by bringing out two legendary ball players to help close his Spring/Summer 2018 showcase —hall of famer Scottie Pippen and current king of the court LeBron James.
While obviously no stranger to sportswear, Kith’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection puts it front and center in an effort to highlight Kith’s new collaborative collection with Nike, which includes the altered Air Maestro II, the Air Pippen 1, and custom versions of the LeBron 15’s with straps, floral embroidery, and Kith branding throughout.
Of course Nike and footwear weren’t the only focus, as there were a ton of sport + streetwear-inspired pieces that clearly played off current fashion trends of late, including shearling parkas, arctic camo jackets, robes, cable-knit turtlenecks, track pants with leopard and zebra-print-filled Nike logos, sweatshirts with Moncler’s logo overlaid with Kith’s, and even multicolored varsity jackets emblazoned with the Bergdorf Goodman logo on the back ( a continuation of their current collab that began last spring).
If you’re thinking the whole event felt like one big collab clusterfuck, you wouldn’t be mistaken, as there were at least 15—yes, 15!—of them that included usual suspects such as Nike and Adidas as well as some more surprising ones like Champion, Coca-Cola, Disney, and Moncler.
But of course the biggest surprise of the night was the encore appearance of Pippen and James, who pretty much stole the show, with Pippen playfully walking down the runway in his ponyhair Kith x Nike Air Pippen 1’s followed by LeBron, rocking his floral-embroidered LeBron 15’s while rapping to Kanye’s “H.A.M.” It was definitely quite the site to see, and capture, as the internet and social media clearly had a field day with it.
