If you’re not familiar with Firefly, they were one of the first cannabis brands to bring high-end product design and functionality to the cannabis space with the launch of their Firefly vaporizer back in 2012, and since then, many brands have followed suit, not just with vaporizers, but a slew of other cannabis products and accessories all designed to look, feel, and function like advanced pieces of technology rather than tie-dyed pieces of artwork hand-crafted out of some hippie’s basement. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but today’s modern-day cannabis consumer wants something that’ll look and feel professional, and Firefly certainly paved the way with their initial innovation. A way that’s now being paved further once again with their new device, the Firefly 2.

In order to understand what makes the Firefly 2 so special, you have to understand what made the first one such a huge success. Besides looking and feeling great in your hand, the original Firefly vaporizer was truly unique in that it used convection heating rather than the more traditional conduction heating seen in most vaporizers today. Conduction heating constantly cooks your materials even when you’re not drawing heat from them, which means you’re not only losing flavor as you consume, but also losing the actual buds a lot quicker too. Convection heating, on the other hand, only cooks your herb as you draw from the device housing it, preserving both flavor and flower for a more satisfying cannabis experience.

Unfortunately, that satisfying experience comes at the expense of size, as a larger device is typically needed to house the convection heating element, which we will admit did prove to be a bit of an issue with the original Firefly unit. The device was rather large compared to others, and while the taste was certainly better, many were unwilling to sacrifice portability and discretion for it. Thankfully, the folks at Firefly realized this and did their best to address the issue with the new Firefly 2.

The new device is both smaller and more compact than the original, yet still retains all the things we loved about the first version that made it so great, including several much welcomed additions. We’re talking an all glass heating chamber, a borosilicate glass vapor path, and a “dynamic convection” heat system that uses 55 laser-drilled micro jets of superheated air to deliver rich, thick vapor in a matter of seconds. Three, to be exact, which is exactly how long the Firefly takes to reach 400° fahrenheit. That’s right, this is hardcore on-demand heat, all at the touch of your fingertips. Literally. To power it up, just tap the Firefly 2’s outer edges. Edges that are made from aerospace-grade materials resulting in a device that’s 55% lighter and 33% smaller than its predecessor.

And speaking of aerospace-grade materials, it’s those very materials that also help contribute to the Firefly 2’s gorgeous new streamlined design. A design that’s now available in five different colored magnetic lids that each give the Firefly 2 their own unique look and identity. Even the box it comes in is well thought out and beautifully designed, easily capable of being mistaken for the latest Apple product rather than something you vape out of, which totally makes sense considering the duo behind the Firefly are former Apple employees—one a designer and one an engineer—that came together to create this magnificent piece of hardware.

Yeah, the Firefly 2 is the real deal, and with a host of innovative new features like an easy-lift magnetic lid, removeable mouthpiece with particulate filter, a quick-charge high-efficiency battery and charging dock, and a free mobile app that lets users select from six different pre-set temperature settings, they’ve really set the bar a lot higher this time around. They even went a step further to accommodate those who still enjoy the occasional concentrate by providing each unit with three separate concentrate pads that are now compatible with the Firefly, making it easier than ever to conveniently switch from flower to concentrates within the same device.

Bottom line: If flower is your primary go-to and taste your primary concern, then the Firefly 2 should be your primary vaporizer. Not only does it work great and taste great, but it looks great doing both, and is sure to bring you hours upon hours of satisfying vaping experiences for years to come.
