There are many books out there on cannabis, but none of them fuse one of the world’s most beloved herbal pastimes with one of the world’s most other beloved pastime—cocktails! Until now.

Cannabis, Cocktails, Mocktails & Tonics is a fun, easy-to-read “cookbook” of sorts that not only provides tasty cannabis-infused recipes, but also essential instructions for de-carbing cannabis to release its full psychoactive effect. And the lessons don’t stop there. The book also takes you through a brief history of cannabis as a social drug as well as its growing acceptance towards becoming a full-on medicinal.

Written by celebrated five-time author, cook, and teacher Warren Bobrow (aka “The Cocktail Whisperer”), Cannabis, Cocktails, Mocktails & Tonics aims to dispel the notion that drinking and using cannabis can only lead to all bad things. In fact, quite the opposite; cannabis, when infused into the very best craft spirits money can buy (along with a cross utilization of ‘mock’ tails in a creative, flavor-forward fashion) can indeed not only enlighten, but even heal!

Bobrow understands the potential ramifications of what he’s suggesting and uses a carefully curated strain by strain approach, with sativa and indica leading the way, drilling down into a deep dive of specific varieties. Each flavor is chosen for its particular effect and flavor qualities, with recipes pertinent and relevant in the stratus of “healing what ails ye” instead of getting your entire social circle couch-locked for the weekend.

The book makes a conscious effort to practice the “Thai spicy” approach to consumption. You’d never order Thai food “Thai spicy” like the locals do if you’re trying it for the very first time, and the same goes with infused cocktails, which Mr. Bobrow reminds us of throughout. As he suggests, start slowly, never consuming more than one per hour (assuming you crafted said cocktail correctly), and as goes with all edibles and drinkables, wait out the full hour to see what the effect will be because everyone (and every situation) is different. You may have eaten while a friend has not. You may be a high tolerant cannabis pro while another may be a rookie. Keep a mindful eye and a close watch on those consuming. They might be completely obliterated while you’re just toking along, or rather you might be while they’re still waiting to feel the effects. Such is the rub with cannabis cocktails, and although they initially require a practiced caution, it’s all fun and games once you’ve figured them out.

That being said, you don’t actually need cannabis to take advantage of many of the book’s creative recipes. Bobrow’s delicious concoctions stay delicious without the use of cannabis all the same. Even if you choose not to infuse them, each drink is carefully crafted for maximum flavor and will surely deliver results that carefully integrate modern-day tastes, colors, and yes, even textures, with a wonderful sense of pleasure and alacrity!
