Drake’s, one of London’s most popular purveyors of some of the world’s finest handmade ties, pocket squares, scarves, and other menswear accessories, has recently opened up a temporary pop-up store in New York’s trendy SoHo neighborhood.
The store, located at 120 Prince Street, is actually the former space of popular downtown sandwich shop Olive’s, and rather than having a slew of patrons lining up around the corner for their lunchtime sandwich fix, the folks at Drake’s hope they’ll be lining up for some of London’s finest menswear offerings.
As the brand’s creative director recently told GQ, “Happily, we haven’t thrown them out. I’ve noticed one of our colleagues has been heading out there for lunch every day.” Yes, thankfully Olive’s is still around, just a few short blocks away, and thankfully, Drake’s is also now around to hopefully put the recent athleisure wear trend on notice
“Our tie factory is busier than it’s ever been,” Hill said. “We all see what’s happening globally in terms of how men dress. The world is more casual. But for guys who want to dress up and have that expression once a week, once a month, whatever it is, I think the tie still very much has a place.” Amen to that!
The pop-up shop will be open for about six to nine months, with a chance it’ll remain open longer depending on how busy it gets. Hopefully, they do, as with the recent push towards more casual everyday wear, we could all take a page from Britain’s classier and, shall we say, nattier wardrobe.
