Fresh off his Nocturnal Animals movie premiere at the Venice Film Festival, fashion designer and filmmaker Tom Ford returned to the runway last night after a one year hiatus with an exclusive dinner and cocktail reception held at the Four Season’s former legendary hotel restaurant on East 52nd Street. And while a celebrity-filled crowd was treated to fancy cocktails, caviar-filled hors d’oeuvres , and even a performance by up-and-coming gospel/soul artist Leon Bridges, the real stars of the show were the clothes. And they certainly didn’t disappoint.

Following the likes of Burberry and other recent labels opting to show “ready-to-wear” collections available for immediate purchase (instead of the typical 3-6 month runway to shelf cycle), Tom Ford showed off his Men’s and Women’s Fall 2016 Collection rather than the Spring/Summer 2017 collections that most of his peers will be displaying throughout the week.

Of course none of that really mattered much, as when it comes to Tom Ford, you typically know what to expect despite the season—but it’s the details that truly make the difference.

While the designer’s signature 70’s swank and style were on full display, it was the introduction of clever textures and colors blended seamlessly into vintage Tom Ford formal and outerwear that truly brought the collection to life. And the fact that you could simply go online or in-store and purchase these pieces a day after the event made the show even more exciting to watch. Whether as exciting as the premiere of his Nocturnal Animals, we can’t for sure say, but hey, not every film from one of the world’s leading fashion designers can be worthy of an Oscar nom. But every one of his new fall pieces can, and it’s safe to assume you’ll be seeing them all over those Oscars in no time.
