The Oscars are the most prestigious awards show in entertainment today. Each and every year, movie lovers (and haters) gather around their televisions waiting in anticipation to see which overly dressed celeb will receive these tiny, shiny statues of validation. And each and every year, it makes for remarkable entertainment.

But perhaps even more entertaining is the little known fact that the Academy seems to have a soft spot for, of all things, cannabis. Many nominees over the years have featured our beloved flower in a number of supporting roles, with some even winning their respective categories.

So in preparation for this Sunday’s telecast, we thought it befitting to celebrate these films by assembling what we believe to be some of the best Oscar-winning cannabis scenes in all of Oscars history. So roll out the red, roll up some green, and get ready to screen some definitive cannabis-filled movie scenes.

ANNIE HALL

In the Best Picture category, this movie actually beat Star Wars. Who knew Woody Allen had it in him? Annie Hall is filled with tons of great scenes, but the bedside argument over Annie’s weed use is really worth a laugh. It’s a terrific re-staging of that classic old saying, “If I’m high, it’s better.” Highly recommended.

PULP FICTION

Our introduction to Jules and Vincent starts off with their shared love of fine hashish as Vincent giving Jules a rundown of Amsterdam’s pot laws. And although we don’t see its actual presence in the scene, we certainly feel it come to life through the fine acting of one John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson. Royale with cheese? We’ll have two.

AMERICAN BEAUTY

This Best Picture winner of 2000 is practically brimming with bud. If you haven’t seen American Beauty, consider sparking up your favorite strain and getting your Netflix on. A joint-rolling Kevin Spacey smoking in line at the drive-thru? Classic!

ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind took home the Academy award for best screenplay back in 2005. There are a few scattered bud jokes in this Charlie Kaufman-written classic, but the strongest gem comes from David Cross. After Joel (Jim Carrey) tells about his ex-lover seemingly ignoring him at a bookstore, Cross breaks the tension in the room by asking if anybody wants a joint. His wife gets angry and ends up beating him with their laundry. Hilarious stuff.

The Academy Awards will be held this Sunday, February 28th, and will be televised live by ABC at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
