In January, Adidas brought back one of their most iconic apparel collections, the “Adicolor,” for Spring/Summer 2018. Initially launched in the ‘70s, the collection quickly became a symbol of both sports and street culture alike, and now it looks to do so yet again in a new collaboration with cult Japanese streetwear label BAPE.
Set to drop on July 28th, the upcoming capsule collection includes camo-patterned tracksuits and tees in four different colorways—red, black, blue, and green—with white Adidas Originals branding and BAPE’s Ape Head logo on opposite front ends of both the tracksuits and pants, and both logos on opposite sides (front and back) of the tees. The designs are then finished with a small BAPE x Adicolor stitched logo tag.
This isn’t the first time Adidas and BAPE have collaborated, having recently come together for the “Adidas Winning Collection,” a limited-edition World Cup capsule collection that featured a football (soccer) jersey, a zip-up jacket, and a pair of suede kicks all taking inspiration from the Japanese flag.
Before that, the duo also teamed up with Portland Trail Blazers’ point guard Damian Lillard for a limited-edition basketball sneaker released over All-Star weekend. Like the upcoming Adicolor collection, those kicks also took inspiration from BAPE’s popular camo design, as well as their coveted shark design, with the sneakers coming in red, black, and green camo colorways.
With three collaborations already under their belt, the two show no signs of slowing down either, as recent rumors suggest a possible camo-focused UltraBoost collaboration set for 2019. And while we’re not huge fans of the whole camo vibe sneakers ourselves, there’s no denying their popularity.
