CBD, the non-psychoactive ingredient of cannabis, has been blowing up of late throughout the country, and New York is just the latest city to begin seeing it pop up everywhere—from CBD flower and vape shops to innovative cocktail and coffee bars, all one needs to do is look.
Thankfully, we did some looking for you and found five boutique coffee shops infusing their drinks with it. After all, what better way to start your day than with a little cannabis?
1) Caffeine Underground (Bushwick)
At the top of our list is Caffeine Underground, which was one of the first spots in New York City to offer up CBD-infused beverages. Located in Brooklyn’s cooler-than-thou Bushwick neighborhood, Caffeine Underground serves as both a coffee shop and boutique event space offering up CBD-infused coffee drinks like lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, and Americanos as well as CBD-infused “Trippin’ Tea.” And if you’re looking for a little edible pairing, they also have CBD caramels and even jam to spread on your toast.
Next up is Tribeca’s Patent Coffee, which doesn’t just sell CBD coffee, but also bottled CBD cold brew to go. Each 12 oz. bottle comes infused with a healthy 30 mg dosing of CBD, which should get you up and running without the jittery side-effects typically accompanying your daily pick-me-up.
Also in Tribeca, as well as the Highline, famed New York City eatery Bubby’s is now offering its patrons CBD in the form of an exclusive sweetener called Azuca, or sugar in Spanish. Developed in-house by Bubby’s owner Ron Silver over a span of 4 years, the CBD-infused Azuca sweetener is offered on the menu alongside coffee, tea, and lemonade, where $10 will get you 25 mg of the stuff in your beverage of choice.
Leave it to a small coffee shop in Chinatown to put a refreshing twist on the CBD beverage craze. While Oliver Coffee will gladly add a few drops of CBD oil to your cappuccino, latte, or other coffee beverage of choice for just $3, it’s their specialty drinks that really shine. There’s a tasty Golden Tumeric CBD latte, a sweet Rose-Infused Maple Syrup and Oat Milk latte, and our favorite, a deliciously creamy Pandan Leaf Iced Chai CBD latte topped off with fresh ginger to boot!
5) Cha Cha Matcha (Nolita, Noho)
Finally, while not exactly coffee, Cha Cha Matcha has built a loyal following of matcha-crazed New Yorkers seeking an alternative to the traditional coffee caffeine fix. A following that counts Leonardo DiCaprio, Kendall Jenner, and Gigi Hadid among its fanbase. And with $6 CBD-Infused Lavender Teas and $8 Collagen Blue Algae Lattes, perhaps it’s no surprise why. Still, with ingredients like CBD and matcha, you cold do a lot worse in a city like New York. Whether your wallet would agree is another story.
