Todd Snyder ended NY Fashion Week: Men’s Spring/Summer 2019 the only way he knew how—in true American flair with his “The American Tourist” show.

The show, held in the West Village, harkened back to ’80s and ’90s Americana with plaid suits worn over athletic tanks, gingham-checked pleated trousers, seersucker stripes, button-up shirts dressed down with bucket hats and slides, and even a yellow souvenir tee with a photo taken on the road by ‘70s folk rock legend Gerry Beckley, founder of the band America.

“This season is an eclectic mix of sartorial references mixed with whimsical, camp-y, almost ironic references,” Todd Snyder told Forbes of the Spring/Summer 2019 collection. “There’s a modern take on tailoring mixed with sporty looks to keep things fresh.”

There was also a clear modern take on various ‘80s style trends, as evident from the collection of pleated pants and shorts along with plaid suits worn with their sleeves pushed up. There were even authentic Reyn Spooner Hawaiian prints fashioned into a suit as well as a matching pair of camp shirt and shorts, the latter being pleated as well.

The show also included pieces from Snyder’s deep circle of designers and collaborators, including Levi’s cut-offs from L.A.’s RE/DONE, bucket hats from Kangol, and futuristic-looking, square-shaped aviators with tinted lenses from eyewear brand Moscot.
