Mission Workshop Styrman Waterproof Topcoat ($845)

When it comes to staying dry during cold weather storms, your options are usually limited to a bulky wool overcoat or a stifling, restrictive trench coat, the former of which is clearly not waterproof and the latter of which is just plain uncomfortable. Thankfully, the folks over at San Francisco’s Mission Workshop have come up with the perfect solution to not only keep you dry, but also warm and comfortable for whatever the weather gods throw at you.

Constructed from a revolutionary new Swiss-made Schoeller fabric called “c_change,” the Styrman topcoat utilizes a cutting-edge, breathable heat reactive outer membrane whose waterproof shell regulates your body temperature without weighing you down, resulting in a coat that keeps you dry while also keeping you comfortable—and stylish, as its clean, modern design works just as easily for a trip to the office as it does for a night out on the town.

Plus true to Mission Workshop’s heritage, the Styrman comes equipped with a ton of innovative technical organizational features like a sleek, removable storm hood, internally ported media pouches, an external zippered chest pocket, and even convenient hand-warmer pockets.

We’ll admit, as much as we love donning the occasional tan trench coat, the practicality and convenience of the Styrman seemingly win us over. Plus it gives us another outerwear piece in our arsenal—one that ensures we look a little bit different than every other trench coat-sporting city slickster navigating the streets in a wet winter storm.
