Famed designer Tom Ford helped kicked off NY Fashion Week at New York City’s iconic Park Avenue Armory this past Tuesday, marking his first-ever showing at New York Men’s Week as well as the debut of his first-ever underwear collection.
The collection, consisting of silk boxer shorts done up in shiny metallics and even shinier animal prints, harkened back to the ‘90s when silk boxers were all the rage. And while we’re not exactly the biggest fans of boxer shorts (most women prefer boxer briefs and so should you), we could see ourselves making an exception for ones made in Italy stamped with Tom Ford’s seal of approval around the waistband.
Another Tom Ford first came in the form of a new watch collection that cleverly accompanied the underwear collection as they both made their way down the runway, with male models confidently owning the catwalk scantily clad in nothing but silk boxers and sleek timepieces. The watches are Swiss-made and produced in collaboration with Bedrock Manufacturing Company, which is the same company behind other well-known watch brands like Shinola and Fossil. One of the watches, dubbed the “Tom Ford 001,” has a unisex rectangular face and comes in a variety of straps and cases, allowing you to easily mix and match from various band choices like a hand-woven braided leather, a pebbled leather, and of course a classic Tom Ford alligator leather, among others.
Beyond the boxers and timepieces, there were plenty of the usual Tom Ford fashion staples like sharply-cut, ultra luxurious suits in various shiny monochrome colors as well as an assortment of fresh new coats and sportswear pieces, all accented by typical Ford accessories like oversized sunglasses and even greater oversized bags. Some of the more notable standouts included a handsome navy two-button suit with chalk pinstripes, a snakeskin-patterned puffer, and a hybrid sneaker-loafer complete with front tassels and a sporty molded sole, clearly nodding to the still-popular athleisure trend that’s been dominating the runways these past few years.
