David Yurman Shipwreck Jewelry Collection ($350-$5,100)
There’s a new men’s jewelry collection that just sailed into town, and unlike it’s namesake, it’s still very much afloat. Yes, one man’s shipwreck is another man’s treasure—and in this case, that treasure is a new jewelry line from NYC-based luxury jewelry designer David Yurman.
Called the “Shipwreck Collection,” the new designs feature jewelry inspired from old British and Spanish merchant schooners. Some of the pieces even come from actual historical treasure-laden shipwrecks from across the world, with three distinct variations being offered up for sale—sterling silver, 22k gold, and 22k gold with emerald, ruby, and sapphire gems.
So how did David Yurman properly capture the look and feel of vintage shipwrecked treasure? Well, Yurman’s master designers first spent time studying ancient coins and artifacts for their initial inspiration, then went ahead and replicated the nature those metals took after decades (if not centuries) floating about under seawater. Once that look and feel was replicated, the pieces were then tumbled dry to create a more realistic worn finish. They then underwent an oxidation patina process that further replicated the shipwrecked look and feel.
The result? A rather unique collection of ancient-looking rings, bracelets, necklaces, and pendants that each look and feel like they have their own legendary story. Now it’s just up to you to tell it.
