A new art exhibit focusing on the botanical beauty of cannabis is opening up today at the University of Colorado’s Museum of Natural History.
The exhibit, titled “Cannabis: A Visual Perspective,” showcases a juried selection of botanical illustrations presented by the Rocky Mountain Society of Botanical Artists (RMSBA) and features various pieces of scientific, cannabis-themed art created in prints, pastels, acrylics, oils, colored pencil, watercolor, and even mixed media.
“This is the first exhibit of its kind that we know of in the United States,” said Suzanne Balog, the museum’s event and communications specialist. “We really want to focus on the artistic process as well as use this as a launching point to talk about the science that’s happening on campus on this flowering species of plant.”
That science is actually part of a larger study being funded by state marijuana research grants in an effort to uncover the plant’s many medicinal benefits as well as the effects of high-potency cannabis, particularly when it comes to driving. And in that regard, the exhibit, while exploring the diversity of the genus cannabis, also aims to shine a spotlight on all the groundbreaking research currently being done at the university.
For those interested in checking it out, the exhibit is free and runs now through January 31st, 2018 at the CU Museum of Natural History in Boulder, Colorado. For more info. visit colorado.edu/cumuseum.
