Hawthorne Personalized Fragrances ($100)
With so many fragrances out there, finding the right one can often be quite the challenge, which probably explains why most men today simply do without them. That being said, a proper fragrance can easily take a man from disgust to desirable with just a few sprays, not to mention help mask any, eh, pungent smells that some might find offensive. Yes, not everyone appreciates that whiff of heady Sour Diesel emanating from your pockets, and those that don’t will be more likely to avoid you then tell you straight to your face. Solution? A proper fragrance, and the folks over at Hawthorne have made finding it a whole lot easier.
Launched by Hood By Air designer Phil Wong and his business partner Brian Jeong, Hawthorne is disrupting the fragrance world via their online platform that lets seasoned expert perfumers craft not one, but two completely personalized fragrances designed around your tastes and habits.
Through a brief online survey, the site collects various biometric and lifestyle data like what you eat, how you dress, if you’re a smoker, etc. and then uses that information to determine which of their core 10 scents will be right for you. And the coolest part? They create two scents that offer the same fragrance profile but differ slightly to appeal to both your “work time” and “playtime” preferences.
Of course an online fragrance matchmaking service like this, while good in theory, isn’t always perfect, and for those imperfections the site promises that if you’re not satisfied with your scents, you can simply return them as many times as you’d like “until you’re happy.” Not bad, especially considering you get to avoid those pesky department store sales peeps and the rush of hundreds of overbearing fragrances invading your nostrils at once.
