Strawberry Cough ($238/oz.)

STRAIN OVERVIEW

Every legendary marijuana strain has a crazy story to tell, and Strawberry Cough is certainly no different. Legend has it that Kyle Kushman, a former High Times editor and 5-time Cannabis Cup Winner, created the strain by cloning an original Strawberry Field plant and crossbreeding it with a Haze one. He then proceeded to slowly build hype around the strain through New York’s underground cannabis market until eventually moving out west, where he handed out clones along the cross-country drive and subsequently pushed its popularity to staggering heights. Heights that eventually earned it a Best Flower win in the 2013 Cannabis Cup. And with cloudy amber trichomes resembling gorgeously lit sea coral topped off with bright orange strands offering a wonderful blast of color, you’d be hard-pressed not to agree on just looks alone, never mind its deliciously sweet strawberry taste.

Still, the question remains—why marry a beautifully luscious, tasty fruit like strawberry with a horrible human involuntary action like coughing? Well, because Strawberry Cough produces such a harsh smoke that even the most experienced amongst us are almost guaranteed to cough. But when all’s said and done, it’ll be a cough well worth it.

THE HIGH

Strawberry Cough is a sativa-dominant hybrid with an 80% sativa and 20% indica split. The THC level hovers around 20%, which makes it a great mid-range high that offers feelings of euphoric uplift and relaxation.

Personally, after having taken three quick puffs, I found the high to be a bit slow to start. In my experience, this only meant the strain was winding me up before releasing its full potential. Eventually, that release did come around, and I felt a delightful warm breeze throughout my body as I eased into a great headspace of creativity and comfort.

I was actually scheduled to attend a lecture and became concerned the strain might leave me a bumbling fool for the evening. The trip to the event was already complicated with overwhelming city stimulants like the buzz of the Broadway lights and the smash of people in Times Square. One of the best things about Strawberry Cough is that it could last a solid 3 to 4 hours. Unfortunately, that could also be one of its worst things, especially in certain situations. However, upon arrival at my destination, I found the strain allowed me to easily center myself as I was able to clearly focus with a more than finely acute level of concentration.

MEDICAL BENEFITS

Pro-Cannabis health officials recommend Strawberry Cough for patients suffering from stress, depression, pain, and fatigue. It’s also a great strain for managing social anxieties and balancing stress.
