In the past few years we’ve seen more and more designers focusing not just on looks, but also versatility. Whether it be a reversible bomber jacket, wrinkle and sweat-resistant fabrics, high-end kicks that look just as good with a suit as they do with sweatpants, and even the slow comeback of cargo pants (yes, we know!), the idea of designing clothes that play a dual role for today’s versatile lifestyle seems to be on the minds of many designers these days, and now it looks like that idea is quickly moving towards shoes.

The latest trend in footwear looks to be loafers designed with a foldable heel flap that easily turns them into slippers, and while the idea itself is nothing new (many of us already fold down our heels to casually slip in and out of at home, work, and even poolside), creating a shoe whose heel is specifically built for it certainly is.

From high-end designers like Fendi, Gucci, and Alexander McQueen to even mass retailers like Zara, it seems like everyone is getting in on this latest trend. And why not? As the office wardrobe turns more and more casual, it’s the perfect way to easily go from work to play without having to put in too much thought or effort, and as the weather heats up, this new style loafer could easily become your go-to footwear throughout the coming spring and summer months.

We picked out some of our favorites to check out below, but as the trend picks up traction (see what we did there?), there’s no doubt we’ll be seeing a lot more designers creating their own take on this new two-in-one craze.
