We’ve already seen cannabis infused and bottled in tea, coffee, vodka, and even beer, so it was only a matter of time before we came across it in wine.
May Jane Wines touts itself as “The world’s first hemp CBD table wines,” and although we couldn’t verify that at press time (we have come across other so-called cannabis wines, such as singer/songwriter Melissa Etheridg’s “No Label”), we’ll take their word for it.
So what makes Mary Jane Wines so special? Well, first off, they’re partnering with the folks at ONE87 Wine and Cocktails to sell their product in ONE87’s innovative patented ready-to-drink packaging, which means you’ll be able to buy and sip their wine straight out of single-serve glasses—great for the park, a concert, and other outdoor activities. Second, unlike other infused wines, theirs are free of THC, the psychoactive cannabis ingredient that gets you high. Wait, what? Yes, we know—that’s what we were thinking!
But while it may be a bummer for some, it’s great news for others, as the cannabis they are infused with is 99%+ cannabidiol extract, or CBD, as it’s known, which has many of the healing benefits of regular THC cannabis and is often used for the treatment of chronic pain, epilepsy, sleep disorder, MS symptoms, appetite stimulation, and a host of other diseases and ailments. And while their wine won’t get you high, it’ll certainly get you buzzed as it still contains the usual amount of alcohol typically found in your average house bottle.
Unfortunately we haven’t tasted it ourselves as it hasn’t been released just yet, but if and when it does come to market (their website says Spring 2017), it could potentially be a great option for those who aren’t fans of mixing their booze and buds together but would still like to enjoy some of the many healing benefits of both cannabis and their daily glass of red (or two), not too mention a little alcoholic buzz to boot.
