With the July 4th weekend finally upon us, we thought we’d help give your festivities a little extra kick with a refreshing summer and cannabis cocktail pairing. But the kicks don’t stop there. Starting today and continuing every Friday throughout the summer, we’ll be working with Aaron Gordon, expert mixologist and founder of 13th Street Cocktails, to give you original cocktail recipes you can make right at home. We’ll then be consulting our expert in-house budtender to help pair those cocktails with some heady cannabis flavors, many of which, depending on which state you live in, you just may be able to make right at home too.

So skip the wine and cheese pairings this holiday weekend and give your friends something a little more buzzworthy to wet their palettes with. Something that’s sure to take everyone’s summer festivities to new and unforeseen heights.

Our first pairing starts with a refreshing summer cocktail called the Dos Piña, which gets its name from its main ingredients: tequila (the heart of the agave plant is called piña) and pineapple (piña in Spanish). The Dos Piña’s sweet, citrus notes of tropical fruit, along with its earthy and spicy smoked jalapeno flavor, go great with Space Queen’s citrusy, earthy flavor profile. Add the citrus and hop flavors of the Dos Piña’s summer saison, and you’ve got a refreshing cocktail and cannabis pairing that’s perfect for any backyard summer barbecue or lazy day at the beach.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz of 100% blue agave blanco tequila (we like Tequila Ocho Plata)
  • 1 oz grilled pineapple puree (or muddle a 1½  inch cube of pineapple)
  • ¾ oz lime juice
  • ½  oz gentian liqueur (we like Suze)
  • ½ oz simple syrup
  • Healthy pinch of Mexican chile or chipotle powder

Shake in cocktail shaker with several cubes of ice, then add a nice Summer Saison (we like Victory Summer Love) into shaker. Pour into highball glass over several fresh cubes of ice and garnish with pineapple leaves or lime. Pair with Space Queen cannabis.
